Bishop Stan Live! Jesus as High Priest? How is that? How does that relate to Moses? How should Christian leaders act and even think? Why did it take 10 days for the Father to send the Holy Spirit after Jesus ascended? Jesus set up a kingdom and then delegated things? All this and more. Readings - This sermon heavily references the readings for the week: Numbers 11:23-13:1; Isaiah 46:5-47:1; Hebrews 7:18-8:1; John 1:43-2:12 (New King James Version) On being a priest/pastor (or really any kind of minister):
I get asked for help from guys all the time who are in seminary or who want to be a priest. Sometimes they need help getting into a seminary so I ask them why they want to go. Overwhelmingly, they think that they need to be a priest to serve God so I want to tell you all something very-very important. Are you ready? Here it is: To serve God you just start serving Him right now. Not later. Not in 10 years . Not even later this week. DO IT NOW! That is your purpose in life. If you have other purposes they are wrong. Correct your course. Mothers: pray with your children. If you want a big title and to be recognized more than you want your children to be godly then you are an unfit mother and the enemy of your family. Sorry to talk so tough to you but you are a menace and someone has to say something sensible to you. If you have some spare time then go to church and ask how you can volunteer. Put your husband and your family first and use that as a good example to show less fortunate women. You will be astounded at the effect of good example. Husbands: lead your family in godliness and righteousness. Pray with your wife and teach your children Gods word. YOU FEED YOUR OWN LAMBS FROM YOUR OWN HAND. Set a standard of righteousness and treat your family with love, respect, and kindness that Christ has towards others. Gods primary calling on you is to be a representation of Christ in your very own home. If you fail at this why do you need a big position for? You're going to preach the word of God someplace and your own family see you as a joke? You can't have that. Put your family first and do your ministry well there first. Getting the shirt: any fool can read 100 books and wear a collar. but to be something. That's hard. In the end your congregants aren't going to cry for you at your funeral and they aren't going to be there for you when the chips are down in the same way as your family. For the single: married or not kiss your life goodbye. It's not worth saving anyway. Grab onto the life of Christ with both hands. Sell everything. Burn everything. Don't look back. Consider yourself a missile shot from a plane yet to hit your target and live in the lag time. If God gives you a spouse purpose yourself to make a Christian home and devote yourself to making the other person happy. Your home is not a house for you but it is supposed to be a home for God to live in with both of you. Do good works and enjoy doing them and God will shine his light on your work for everyone to see. You want a big award? So what? It's better to have had an effect. If you don't get satisfaction from that you need to have a chat with your spiritual director. Followed by repentance. God gave you a life so what do you want to do with it? Don't wait till later. Life with God has to be lived. Start living it right now. Not later. God has called you to be a priest or a pastor? Good. But it's about who you are and what you've done, not a philosophy degree. Being an expert in godliness is a requirement for everyone, not just clergy so if you can quote a lot of scripture you still don't get any bonus points since that's required of everyone - and it's for your own good anyway. Start off assuming that you are taking on a thankless task for the benefit of the whole community and that you have something to give but that you are doing it only to please God and you will really have something. When that's all you really want to do then you are already on the right road. If you're trying to get rich from it then you will always be an inferior servant. And basically you will always be a schmuck no matter how many books you sold and how much money you made or how popular your ministry is. Which of the apostles died in their mansions? They all had one purpose only and they lived it. To the fortune hunter clergy all I can say is: I'll see you on the Judgment Day and we'll compare checks. If you even get one. Bishop Stan Live! Christmas ain't over yet, it's Epiphany which is the celebration of The Revelation of Jesus as the Messiah at His baptism. Ever wonder what the Scriptures really mean by the term anointing? Adam broke the universe and disconnected it from God so God the Word (Jesus) went to unite man to God and to put the whole of creation back under control. And you thought Christmas was just about St Nicholas and Manger scenes. Pay attention as this actually affects you every day of your life. There is salvation and then there is salvation in a way you might not have ever thought of as taught by the apostolic fathers. God had to set things up through human history to get things ready for Mary and Elizabeth to do the next part of God's plan which would change all of human history and even Creation itself.
